Just found out about this game like a day and a half ago, played through all of the content and all I can say is wow. This is an incredibly compelling and fun game to play. I'm a huge Fire emblem fan and the combat encounters in this game really scratch that same itch. Luc's story is really fun to watch unfold and there are many similarities between Luc's and my own transition journey(unfortunately not the magical transformation aspect). The main game loop is also a very engaging mechanic, there is just enough to feel like you are constantly making progress but not too much that there are too many options and you feel unsure of how best to spend your time. I did wish that the skills said how far they had to go to level up in the menu. Solid game play, good trans themes, 8/10, can't wait for more.
P.S. The art in this game is also incredible, from the pixel art to the illustrations of the characters, all of the characters are so cute and fun.
this is such a cozy game. was so sad when I hit the waiting room. when it felt like the game was about to enter it's climax. Spending time with people and learning about them even with the heavy themes was just mind numbingly pleasing. and the adult content isn't as great as other games. but honesty the game shines despite that. there is a few times where it feels like the game is preaching. Anytime the word "bigot" was used made me cringe. but that's it as far as negatives go. the set pieces are beautifully done. the characters you interact with are amazing. I could listen to these conversations for hours. I never felt like the game was wasting my time in any fight. when Luke was crying in the back because he didn't wanna change back that almost broke my heart. the sad looks on the character sprites do the game justice. I find myself looking forward to talking to all the characters and getting those hearts up. and balancing skill progression with character progression was done so well. you don't get a lot of different skills to use or play around with in combat but with the movement and environment; despite not a lot of complexity it's still verry fun. I can tell the dev or devs who worked on this game put a lot of care and attention into the systems they work on. for example unlocking codex's on monsters and researching them makes them easier to deal with! I get they probably don't have a lot of time to fully expand some systems further but what they do add is never half baked. and this proves you don't need a lot of complexity to have fun! and when it comes to story I'm impressed they got so much out of the premise. these devs or dev deserve a nice warm coffee for such a game well made. tit for tat. warmth for warmth. please support them.
PS. the campfire talk and the ride back from the campsite did make me cry. and it's the devs fault. TLDR this game is amazing, you should definitely consider giving it a try. Amazing art. cute characters. Heavy story. fun mechanics.
Now I'm not usually one bold enough to talk about adding things. But How hard would it be to make your name slowly shift in gradient from mostly blue to mostly pink? Slowly over the course of the game? I saw the gradient in the game on his name and was thinking. That would be such an amazing detail. I mean I even thought it was going to happen. But then again maybe that only happens if you start out with feminity maxed out. From the set up questions. I don't know I'm not the creator of the game. But I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Maybe it shifts to match your bar throughout the game? Probably just a dumb idea from me but I think it's cool
I don't think it's a dumb idea! I think it would be neat. Unfortunately, it would be pretty difficult to implement because of some of the other systems Thread has going on. I also just have a color theme in my head for all of the characters, and Luc is blue, for better or worse. I admit it maybe was a bad idea to choose a gendered color for Luc, but here we are.
MILD SPOILER AHEAD:
If you get to a certain heart/contact level with Sarah, you unlock nail painting. The color you choose to pain Luc's nails with adds a gradient to Luc's name, using Luc's signature blue and whatever nail color you choose. In the future, you will be able to buy multiple colors of nail polish and swap between them.
I love the game so much, i have played the first two chapters and i love the story so much! So many moments make me cry and laugh and i'm so excited to play even more, i hope eventually i get to play chapter 3 either when i have the chance to download it or if the web version ever gets it, but until then i'm super happy with what i've seen.
The web version has all of the currently available content. Which is chapters 0, 1 and part of chapter 2. I'm still writing the next part of chapter 2, and when it's released it will be available as a download for Patrons first. However, I currently plan to eventually make all content available in the web version. So, don't worry, you aren't missing anything :3
Glad to know, super excited for when it comes out, the game really is incredible, and i am so excited for the next chapter because you can actually feel the emotions of every character, from Lucas to Amy you feel their struggles and it makes it feel so real
I really like what I'm seeing from the game so far. I really like the art and characters so far. Hopefully we'll be able to get new outfits down the line.
The only negative so far is that there seems to be no way to have a platonic relationship with Roy. He seems like a cool dude but romantic feelings towards guys isn't something I'm into so I have to skip his content for now.
Hi there! Additional outfits are definitely something I'm looking to add in the future! As for Roy, there will be a point in a future version where you, as the player, can choose NOT to pursue him romantically and remain platonic. However, as for what's in the game now, well, Luc is canonically bi and has a bit of a thing for Roy, and it shows. But whether or not that becomes anything more than friends is up to the player.
Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you are enjoying it so far!
Nice to hear about new outfits coming in the future. I did the shopping trip for the first outfit 4+ times. I was expecting to either go for the casual or sporty styles since they match my personal style and I was honestly surprised to realize that the dress was my favorite. Luc being taught how to ride in one was also funny which sealed it.
I'm guessing we'll be able to also get new spells as well. Do you have an idea of how large the team will be?
Will there be more to the stats in the future? I know courage can shape if Luc comes out as trans and charm is supposed to make you more sociable. What will academics do? Will Luc need to balance school life/grades with guardian duties or will it shorten the time to research monsters and learn new spells?
Nice to hear that there will be a platonic route for him in the future. I thought we'd be able to also shape Luc's attractions since we can also shape if the they are trans and other social stats. Like I thought the Roy route would start and the player could decide if Luc's attracted to him/guys romantically or if guys are seen as just friends for example. Guess I'll just have to avoid him for now tho since it seems that's the where Luc explicitly says she's into guys and I'd like to avoid that bit. That's just a personal thing. I've enjoyed everything about your game so far besides being attracted to guys and i really look forward to what the future has in store.
Sorry for the delayed response. I've been quite sick. To address your questions: I do know how large the team will be, but I'm keeping that under-wraps until it's time. I don't currently plan to add more stats. The social stats are generally used to gate dialogue options and story paths. However, having a high academics giving you a boost to research is an interesting idea. I'll play around with it!
Yeah it seems that when I studied a few times the game talked about how Luc found the subject tough but studying helped. This has me thinking that we'd have to balance social/guardian duties with keeping our grades up in school.
Since researching monsters and learning new magic takes multiple time slots I was thinking that higher academics could reduce the number of time slots needed to learn them. Like investing in academics early will make learning these skills much easier later on.
Baller game, and i totally didn't just reset my password so that i can just make this specific review and probably will abandon this account again for like at least a year
Dumb Question, but what are all of the games referenced in the video store? I got a few of them, but there are a bit I don't recognize like fw: wonderer.
Liked the game so far, however one thing that bugs me is Alchemy. It feels bad to use... not only does it cost money which is already a limited resource it also costs time which makes it go from unappealing to just straight up unwise to use.
My recommendation would be to increase the cost of the materials but perhaps make it not take time to create. As it stands using time on something that isn't permanent feels like a waste (to be honest on my second place through I STILL have it in my quest log) but it shouldn't trivialize combat either.

There ended up being a chunk of the supporting cast I deliberately avoided and picked “bad” options during conversations with because I felt a stronger obligation to keeping my version of Luc honest and unembarrassed during downtime than I did to pursing an eventual Sword of Great Friends with Everybody. It was honestly to the point I regretted toggling explicit scenes on at the start since I wanted to get back to unraveling the mysteries sooner.
Also, I feel bad bringing up such a minor nitpick but it made me laugh when I stumbled across it: in week 3, one of the videos available during the rental shift is explored during Wednesday's lit class, but you have time earlier in the week to take the shift. It doesn't read strangely out of context, so on my first playthrough when I took the shift on Tuesday I assumed it was a detail from a past lecture that you mercifully spared us from the full duration of. At least, I did until the following morning when the professor actually mentioned by name and I realized I'd created a temporal anomaly. Oops.
tnx, I honestly read it as Bakery when first getting there for the Alchemy task and it became that way the more I bought bread. so, I didn't read the deli part and was confused.
I don't know if I did something wrong or what (and I struggle to understand what I could've done wrong this early in the story) but I'm stuck in the literal third fight of the entire game, where Sarah fights alongside you. The enemies obliterate her in a couple of turns and at best I can only kill one or two, the heal skill only serves to keep my party alive for a few turns.
Hi there! I'm sorry you are having trouble. Some tips:
Make sure you equip the shade cloth minor artifact from the pause menu or the pre-battle menu.
Move Sarah as far as you can towards Lucas on her turn while still being able to hit one of the shades with her fire spell. Heal Sarah on Luc's first turn.
Try killing the shades that start near Sarah first. They have less health and will die easier.
[...ignoring the fact that I kept reloading the page at the part of W4 where Aurora erupts at Luc during Physics Class due to secondhand embarrassment but that's not important]
Thanks for playing and for the kind words! You aren't the first person who has asked for a guide. It's definitely something I'm considering making, but, currently, there isn't one. Sorry about that!
I really like the game with the choices you can make and how it can effect how the dialogue is and the gameplay i like it a strategy game and it really nice to see it like this. You doing amazing also what engine are you making it in
Unfortunately, the engine that Thread runs on doesn't play well with Firefox or its forks, like Librewolf. It's something I've been trying to fix but haven't been able to resolve yet, and may never be able to fully get working. I recommend either downloading the version that runs on your OS or running the web version in Chrome or a Chromium based browser, like Edge, Vivaldi, Brave, etc.
I'm going to try building for android in the next release! In the meantime, the web version is playable on android and the windows version is playable on JoiPlay on android.
Also I managed to break it a couple times, but that’s my fault for playing on an unsupported device!
(It’s not gonna stop me tho)
Basically during combat if you click anything but the start button you have to restart to save bc I’m on mobile and there’s no touchscreen options (again, my fault for not using the right device)
Also I moved and can’t do anything anymore so I gotta restart again ;-;
Again these aren’t bugs, just me being silly, so really not a big deal.
How much we betting that Luca's mom was a previous host of a guardian (probably Aurora)? I am just imagining Aurora having a moment of shock as she sees the necklace and realizes that she remembers it from her previous host. It would fit, given all the other hosts were cis women.
Very nice game with good story and characters. I actually found myself caring quite a bit for these goobers. Can't wait for updates :3. The biggest complaint I have is that it would be nice to have art for all the different clothing sets, that's the only obvious placeholder that I noticed. Anyway, other than that, this game has been a blast!
hey, great game, I just have 1 complaint, and that is once you reach the end of week 2 you're not aloud to continue playing. I really like the game and the story is great, I just want to be able to see all the content currently available to me without starting a new playthrough. I'm not a dev so I don't know the reasons for this, but this makes seeing all of the content fairly tedious because there is a decent chunk of it crammed into such a short time frame, and the requirements make it worse. having content gated behind certain stat requirements is fine, but with how much in game time they take to increase it pretty much guarantees that multiple play throughs are needed to see all of the side content. with that out of the way, the game is great, keep up the good work.
edit: just realized that I didn't specify that this is for the side content, obviously the main story should need multiple playthroughs or save scumming to see.
Hi there, and thank you for playing and for your kind words. As for continuing to play after hitting end of content, that is tricky to do while keeping saves compatible with the next version of the game. Perhaps I could disable saving and do some kind of endless mode when you reach end of content. I'll look into doing something like that in a future release.
I've run into a hardlock where, on the night of the raid in week 1, right before you actually enter the abandoned store, Aurora's second text will simply not appear and I can't progress. Don't know what caused this. I am playing in browser.
This is my third playthrough, here's what I've done this time -
Shirt on for swimming, Dreamt as a boy, showed empathy to the monster
Studied four times at my desk
Learned Ice Lance
Studied the Skin Walkers
Told Sarah about the Skin Walkers
Cleared Riverside before Sarah's failed attack
Got clothes from Coolies
Have no idea if this will help you identify where the bug comes from but I hope it helps. Looking forward to future updates!
Thank you for the bug report! Was there an error message when the game hard locked? I did a playthrough recreating your steps, and I haven't been able to get the hard lock to occur.
Ah, I think I may have found it! I just reloaded and decided on a whim to change my clothing, see if that fixed it. It did! I switched to wearing the flannel option at some point, and I changed back to the pink blouse and I'm bug free! Hope this helps pinpoint the issue!
After moving your saves from version 0.3.0 or 0.3.1 to 0.3.2, please use the dresser to change outfits at least once to avoid a crash. You can change to a different outfit then back to your desired outfit then save to fix the issue.
as a side note, while you're in your dresser (in 3.2) you may find an outfit that hasn't been fully implemented yet (flannel and skinny jeans). It's a neat preview of future fashion, but wearing it in certain scenes will crash your game, so be careful.
I'm doing some research to see if there is anything I can do to make Thread run on JOI Play. Alternatively, you could try the web version. It works on mobile.

Love the story! How do you get the Procrastinator achievement?
Hi there! So glad you are enjoying the game. As for the achievement, don't do the beginning quest to clear the riverside of shades for a long time :3.

Thanks for the feedback and thank you for playing. I'll consider rebalancing the Alchemy. Perhaps it is too expensive.
My recommendation would be to increase the cost of the materials but perhaps make it not take time to create. As it stands using time on something that isn't permanent feels like a waste (to be honest on my second place through I STILL have it in my quest log) but it shouldn't trivialize combat either.
Love your writing! Usually I've got a severe completionist streak but this is the first rpg of any kind in a long while that I've empathized with the lead enough to get properly immersed in the story and tamp down on any mechanical FOMO.
Oops.
Thank you so much for the kind words! And, yeah, looks like you found a time paradox. Thanks for letting me know! I'll do some revising. :3
Thank you, and sorry again for creating more work for you!
Am I missing something or you can't spend time with Amy yet? Can't find Toni's deli despite it showing up few times on cutscenes.
Toni's is the bakery on Market Street East. It's near the top-left side of the map. :)
tnx, I honestly read it as Bakery when first getting there for the Alchemy task and it became that way the more I bought bread. so, I didn't read the deli part and was confused.
I don't know if I did something wrong or what (and I struggle to understand what I could've done wrong this early in the story) but I'm stuck in the literal third fight of the entire game, where Sarah fights alongside you.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm very glad you enjoyed the game :3. And, like, th3saurus said Thread is made in RPGMaker MV.
is there any way to toggle the random colored text? sometimes it shows up as a similar color to the background, rendering it impossible to read.
Hey, there! There text shouldn't be randomly colored. Are you playing on Firefox?
Librewolf.
Gotcha.

Hey! would you happen to have artwork for the game I can use for my Steam Deck? Thanks!
Try this!
I like this game
Thank you! :3
Yeah it's pretty good :3
Will there be an Android version?
I'm going to try building for android in the next release! In the meantime, the web version is playable on android and the windows version is playable on JoiPlay on android.
I want to give Luc a shadow crystal, for the funnies of course.
Well, I desire more and possible a more variety
I like it but if possible i want a major number of outfit (and not the game dont show all you choose)
what would you call a major number of outfits? more than 6?
This game is really good! I like the tf games references, I've played them all, lol.
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed the game so far :D
fighting the mage after the skinsnatchers is ungodly unfair.
I'm not given the choice to hold off to properly prepare, soft locking me.
I'm glad we were able to get through this on the Discord. Thanks for your patience!
Locked when interacting with Contact button in early game.
Are you playing the web version on mobile?
Web Version on Laptop. The game froze. It was in, like, the prologue during the first fight. (IIRC)
Thanks! Were uou using firefox? The web version is buggy on that browser.
I'm using Google Chrome.
If you are playing on mobile, you can two-finger tap on the screen to go back.
Love this! Glad I decided to play!

Again these aren’t bugs, just me being silly, so really not a big deal.
holy shit sidequests
This game is so cute and sweet. A welcome sight I love the scenes with people as you build friendships and can't wait to see more
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed it :D
Curious... Is it just me, or did I indeed notice reference to re:Dreamer at a few points through all this gameplay?
There may be a couple references in there ;)
Nice! I love the game you're making, by the way, and I am eagerly (but patiently) awaiting more.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm very glad you enjoyed it!
How much we betting that Luca's mom was a previous host of a guardian (probably Aurora)? I am just imagining Aurora having a moment of shock as she sees the necklace and realizes that she remembers it from her previous host. It would fit, given all the other hosts were cis women.
I can neither confirm nor deny ;)
yoo, Did I see a reference to a ZoeStorm Story in the new content update?
You did! You can blame me for recommending it to Rewind >:3
Art for the rest of the outfits is in the works!
hey, great game, I just have 1 complaint, and that is once you reach the end of week 2 you're not aloud to continue playing.
Hope this helps pinpoint the issue!
ah! Okay, got it! Yeah, the flannel is bugged, unfortunately. Thanks for the detailed report, I appreciate it!
Looks interesting - I see only notes about more art in the planned features, so does that mean the main story is finished?
Nope, the main story is in active development.
Very fun game with enjoyable writing.
Lovely
After moving your saves from version 0.3.0 or 0.3.1 to 0.3.2, please use the dresser to change outfits at least once to avoid a crash. You can change to a different outfit then back to your desired outfit then save to fix the issue.
as a side note, while you're in your dresser (in 3.2) you may find an outfit that hasn't been fully implemented yet (flannel and skinny jeans). It's a neat preview of future fashion, but wearing it in certain scenes will crash your game, so be careful.
I tried to play with joiplay but it gives error any way to fix this?
What is the error message you are getting? I might be able to assist. Alternatively, I've heard that the game runs on Maldives (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.miririt.maldivesplayer&hl=en-U...)
I enabled PisxiJS v5 setting it seems to fix some errors that appear, I really don't know.
With PixiJS v5 on:-
With PixiJS v5 off:-
I'm doing some research to see if there is anything I can do to make Thread run on JOI Play. Alternatively, you could try the web version. It works on mobile.
"I really like your outfit. That dress looks good on you."
"Really? Thanks! My friend actually helped me with it"
"[What the fuck am I saying]"
this game's peak.
That whole scene is such a recently-cracked-egg moment. I love it. Reminds me of one of my few happy high school memories.
